Therapist in Washington, DC + Virginia
Welcome!
OWNER, THERAPIST
Juliana Snapp, LCSW (she/her)
I'm a licensed clinical social worker and trauma therapist based in Washington, DC, who works with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms after bad things have happened. My goal is to help you get to the root of your problems rather than simply talking about them with no change.
Who I Am
My Clinical Approach
My Approach: Compassionate. Personalized. Evidence-Based.
I believe in therapy that is both compassionate and strategic. I use a warm approach to help people feel safe and comfortable. I explain in everyday language how trauma impacts our brain and behavior. I believe a healing stance is one of radical compassion towards our deepest parts of self.
I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)—a research-supported, brain-based therapy—to help clients process trauma, rewire limiting beliefs, and feel unstuck. You don’t have to stay trapped in old patterns. With EMDR, change can happen faster than you think.
My Background
Trauma-Informed. Global perspective.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from New York University (NYU) and have 19+ years of experience working in the trauma field. My clinical career started in New York City helping establish an evidence-base for trauma-informed therapies for crime victims.
I took this trauma-informed approach to my work with survivors of torture in New York City, and then to my work in international clinical mental health programming for survivors of trauma, human trafficking, and other human rights violations. I lived and worked in Southeast Asia for many years, which shaped my culturally-sensitive, globally-informed perspective on healing and resilience.
After years abroad, I started my Washington, DC-based psychotherapy practice focused on serving anyone seeking to heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, and attachment wounds.
Who I Work With
I have spent the majority of my career working with survivors of severe and complex trauma, including: gender-based violence, domestic violence, and sexual assault; human rights violations, torture, and human trafficking; and, child abuse, other adverse childhood experiences, and early childhood attachment trauma.
I also work extensively with professionals working in high threat, high stress environments (humanitarians, journalists, international aid professionals) or high burnout fields (activists, advocates, mental health and medical professionals, etc).
